For a Time Such as This

In Minneapolis this week, we witnessed both unbearable grief and astonishing bravery.

The killing of Renee Nicole Good and Alex Pretti by ICE agents on the streets of South Minneapolis has shaken the nation. For those who live in the city, and for those who love it from afar, the pain is visceral. But what has followed—the brave and beautiful response of the community—is a lesson for us all.

People in Minneapolis are showing us how to lead with courage, compassion, and fierce protection of one another. They are stepping forward with moral clarity, with grounded action, and with hearts broken open. Their response isn’t just admirable, it’s instructive. This is what it looks like to be a community of care in a time of collapse.

To the pastors, organizers, chaplains, elders, activists, and neighbors who are showing up—many of whom are connected to the Convergence network—we say: thank you. You are modeling the leadership that this moment requires. You are teaching us what it means to be protectors of the common good.

And for the rest of us—for all of us who are asking, what is mine to do?—we must not look away. We must ask deeper questions about what it means to lead in a time like this. What kind of presence do we bring? Where do we root our courage? How do we stay grounded when everything around us is unraveling?

That is exactly why we created Leading with Spirit.

An Invitation to Grounded Leadership

Beginning February 5, 2026, I’ll be co-teaching a six-part course with my friend and colleague Margaret Wheatley, called Leading with Spirit: Six Initiations into Soul-Grounded Leadership. This course is for anyone who is asking:

  • How do I remain rooted in Spirit in a time of collapse?
  • What does it mean to lead with maturity, clarity, and compassion, especially when institutions are crumbling?
  • How do I reconnect with the deeper purpose of my leadership?

This course is not another skills training. It’s a sacred journey into the inner life of leadership. Each session will explore one of six core initiations, practices that form the deep inner ground from which courage and clarity emerge.

We’ll meet every other Thursday for six live sessions on Zoom, beginning February 5. Each session will include storytelling, shared wisdom, spiritual practice, and meaningful conversation. You’ll also be invited into a network of peers who are asking the same hard and hopeful questions.

This Is the Leadership the Moment Demands

In a time when violence is sanctioned, when fear is weaponized, and when so much feels uncertain, we cannot afford to lead from ego or exhaustion. We need leaders who are grounded in Spirit. We need leaders who are courageous enough to stand for the common good, and resilient enough to endure the cost of that calling.

If you’re reading this, there’s a good chance you’re one of them.

If cost is a barrier, scholarships are available. We want you there.

Let’s find one another. Let’s remember our strength. Let’s lead with Spirit—together.
